A spoonful of sugar helps the soda go down
In the average 20 oz. soda (OMG, how did we get this big?), there is a whopping 65 grams or 15 teaspoons of sugar! This soda contains about 250 calories. Drink 10 a day and that’s a little over 1/2 a pound of additional weight around your middle. You can pretty much do the math……
Never mind that what you are ingesting is not pure sugar, but HFCS, (High Fructose Corn Syrup), which despite the ads on TV, there is. Nothing’s healthy about it. It is a highly processed toxic laden soup of sweetness waiting to take you on the ride of your life, and not a fun one either.
According to Dr. Mark Hyman,” since the introduction of HFCS, obesity rates have tripled and diabetes has risen 7 fold.” Depending on who you read Americans consume from 40-140lbs of the stuff a year! Our ancestors, Dr. Hyman quotes, “consumed only 20 teaspoons of sugar a year.”
He goes on to say that after consulting with Dr. Bruce Ames, “that the lack of a chemical bond between glucose and fructose, causes the glucose to rapidly enter the bloodstream causing big Insulin spikes” and thus the development of Insulin Resistance and Metabolic Syndrome.
They further point out “that the fructose goes straight to the liver and causes production of fat in the liver.” This is known as NAFLD, or Non alcoholic fatty liver disease. Kids as young as 8 years have been reported to have this! This is the 1st generation of kids that will not outlive their parents!
It is time to get very serious about our health. What can you do? Well in 2010 deep fat fry machines were outlawed in public schools. How about the soda machines next? It is your responsibility to yourself and your children’s to see that they grow up healthy…..the choice is yours…make it a healthy one!
You may want to watch “Supersize Me“- a documentary that is very eye-opening about fast food consumption and it’s far reaching side effects.
In my next post I will discuss how Diet Soda are not good for you either…. stay tuned.Share
