There’s a new medication to treat osteopenia, osteoporosis, and breast cancer.

EVISTA is a synthetic hormone-like drug for osteopenia and osteoporosis.  Postmenopausal women who have osteopenia reduce their of developing osteoporosis by 87%, and reduce their risk of having a fracture in their back by 47% .  Postmenopausal women who have osteoporosis reduce their risk of developing a fracture in their back by 55%.

Both group of women reduce their risk of getting breast cancer.  The most common side effect of this medication is hot flashes which is usually temporary.
